چکیده

It is well known that the Ethernet medium access control protocol can cause signiicant short-term un-fairness through a mechanism known as the Capture EEect, and that this unfairness condition is worst in heavily loaded Ethernets with a small number of active nodes. Recently, Ramakrishnan and Yang proposed Capture Avoidance Binary Exponential Back-oo (CABEB) to provide 1-packet-per-turn round robin service in the important special case of a 2-node collision domain. In this paper, we introduce an equal time round-robin scheme, in which only one node needs to be modiied. In our scheme, the modiied node maintains a local copy of the attempts counter of the other node. It uses this information to trigger switching its medium access policy between the two extremes of aggressively persistent and completely passive. As a result , the modiied node can control the actions of the other node in such a way that both enjoy fair, low delay , round-robin access to the shared channel.

Mitigating Node Capture Attack in Random Key Distribution Schemes through Key Deletion

Random Key Distribution (RKD) schemes have been widely accepted to enable low-cost secure communications in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs). However, efficiency of secure link establishment comes with the risk of compromised communications between benign nodes by adversaries who physically capture sensor nodes. The challenge is to enhance resilience of WSN against node capture, while maintainin...

Optimal control of switched systems by a modified pseudo spectral method

In the present paper, we develop a modified pseudospectral scheme for solving an optimal control problem which is governed by a switched dynamical system. Many real-world processes such as chemical processes, automotive systems and manufacturing processes can be modeled as such systems. For this purpose, we replace the problem with an alternative optimal control problem in which the switching t...

On the Way to a Wireless Network Calculus – The Single Node Case with Retransmissions

During the last two decades, starting with the seminal work by Cruz, network calculus has evolved as a new theory for the performance analysis of networked systems. In contrast to classical queueing theory, it deals with performance bounds instead of average values and thus has been the theoretical basis of quality of service proposals such as the IETF’s Integrated and Differentiated Services a...

Connecting Base Stations over Metro Gigabit Ethernets

Emerging high-speed metropolitan Ethernets create new opportunities to save costs when converging data and telephony services. However, connecting GSM and UMTS base stations over metropolitan Ethernets require these networks to meet stringent QoS requirements in the presence of bursty data traffic. To investigate this problem, we have probed ETH’s campus network, which spans the metropolitan ar...
